How often a keyword is searched — a measure of demand for that phrase.

Search volume is the number of times shoppers search a given keyword over a period. It estimates demand: high volume means many potential buyers, but usually also more competition. Etsy doesn't publish exact figures, so sellers infer relative demand from signals like favorites, competition counts and external search suggestions.

The useful comparison is always volume against competition. A high-volume keyword you can't rank for is worth less than a modest-volume long-tail you can own. Sound research weighs both, rather than chasing the biggest number.

Example"T-shirt" has enormous search volume but impossible competition; "bernedoodle dad shirt" has modest volume you can actually rank for.
