Every Etsy shop runs the same handful of jobs: decide what to make, describe it so buyers find it, price it so it pays, publish it at the right moment, and get it made. Free options cover more of that than most sellers think. Paid tools earn their price on the first job, deciding what to make, because that is where the expensive mistakes happen: a week of design for a product nobody searches for.
| Job | Free | Paid |
|---|---|---|
| Decide what to make | Etsy's search suggestions, the ZeusLens extension | ZEUS AI, EverBee, Alura |
| Keywords, title and 13 tags | Etsy's search bar, the Listing SEO Analyzer | eRank, Marmalead, ZEUS AI |
| Fees, price and margin | The Fee & Profit Calculator | — |
| When to publish | The POD Seasonal Calendar | ZEUS AI (trend history) |
| Design and mockups | Canva's free plan, your supplier's mockup generator | Canva Pro, Photoshop |
| Production | Printify, Printful, Gelato: no monthly fee to start, you pay per order | Printify Premium (lower product prices) |
| Your own numbers | Stats in Etsy's Shop Manager | ZEUS AI (daily history of your listings) |
The free tools, and the question each one answers
How much do I actually keep?
The fee calculator itemizes the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, payment processing and Offsite Ads (15%, or 12% once a shop passes $10,000 in a year), from Etsy's official schedule. It shows an organic sale and an Offsite Ads sale side by side, because your real average sits somewhere between the two.
Is my listing built right?
The SEO analyzer checks your title against what Etsy asks for (a clear phrase buyers search for, the product named once) and validates all 13 tags: length, duplicates and the ones that repeat your title word for word. It gives you specific fixes, not a vague score.
When should I publish?
The seasonal calendar lists the exact dates of the main US selling seasons, with the windows to design, publish and expect the peak. Christmas is the one that punishes lateness: listings should be live by mid-October, as we explain in when to publish Christmas listings.
Paid tools: what each one is actually for
eRank is a keyword workbench, with years of search data and a free tier that is genuinely usable. EverBee lives in a Chrome extension and puts an estimated sales number on every listing you browse; its paid plans start at $24.99 a month billed yearly. Alura is an all-in-one: product and keyword research plus listing, email and Pinterest tools, from $7.99 a month. ZEUS AI is built for the decision that comes before all of that, what to make next, with every number labelled measured or estimated and a history it records every day. Prices as published on each tool's website on 5 October 2026.
None of these tools, ZEUS included, can see real per-listing sales: Etsy does not publish that number, so every per-listing sales figure is an estimate built from public signals. And most sellers only need two tools, one to decide what to make and one for keywords. Three tools answering the same question give you false confidence, not accuracy.
If you are comparing, we wrote the comparisons ourselves and said where ZEUS is behind: ZEUS as an EverBee alternative, ZEUS as an Alura alternative and EverBee vs eRank vs ZEUS.
How to choose for your stage
- No sales yet. Stay free: Etsy's search bar, the fee calculator, the SEO analyzer and a print on demand supplier. Spend your money on samples, not subscriptions.
- First sales, 10 to 50 listings. This is when a research tool pays for itself: you need to know which of your ideas has demand before you design the next ten. Start on a free plan and upgrade only when you hit its limits.
- A growing shop. Add history: what is rising, what is seasonal, which of your own listings move. A snapshot stops being enough once you have something to compare it with.
Whatever you choose, run one test before you pay: point the tool at listings whose real numbers you know, your own. If its estimates are wrong on your products, they are wrong on everyone's.
