MarketingOpportunity Score
A single 0–100 rating that weighs demand, competition, margin and evidence to rank how promising a niche is.
An opportunity score condenses several signals — proven demand, competition, price margin, cross-source interest and how much evidence supports them — into one 0–100 number that ranks how promising a niche is to enter. It's a way to compare very different niches on equal footing instead of eyeballing raw stats.
A trustworthy score is explained, not a black box: it shows which factors pushed it up or down, distinguishes measured data from estimates, and stays honest when history is thin. Used well, it points a POD seller toward the niches most likely to reward a new listing.
What goes into it
Four things, and the last one is the one most tools skip. Demand: is anyone searching. Competition: how many sellers already answer that search. Margin: what survives after supplier cost and Etsy fees. Evidence: how much data the first three are built on. A score without the fourth input is an opinion in a numeric costume.
A worked example
Niche A: high demand, extremely high competition, thin margin, years of data. Niche B: moderate demand, low competition, healthy margin, three weeks of data. A naive score ranks A first because its numbers are bigger. A calibrated score ranks B first but attaches low confidence, which is an honest statement of both the opportunity and the risk.
The mistake nearly everyone makes
Treating a single score as a decision. It is a ranking device for comparing candidates, not a verdict. Two niches scoring 78 can be completely different bets if one is built on three years of history and the other on three weeks.
How ZEUS measures it
Every ZEUS score is explained: which signals moved it, how much history sits behind them and how confident the system is. If the evidence is thin, the score says so instead of hiding it behind a confident-looking number.
