SEOTitle Formula
A repeatable structure for clear Etsy titles: say what the item is, carry the phrase buyers search for, and add its key traits.
A title formula is a consistent pattern for writing Etsy titles that are clear to shoppers and match what they search for. Etsy's own guidance, published in August 2025, is explicit: state what the item is, once; put its most important traits upfront (color, material, size, personalization); keep it to roughly 15 words; and move gift, occasion and recipient phrases to tags and attributes unless they are what the item is, like a birthday candle or a Halloween costume. Etsy search now reads the whole listing — title, tags, attributes, description, first photo and reviews — so the title no longer has to carry every keyword, and a longer title is not rewarded.
What still matters is that the title carries the phrase buyers actually type: an exact match can rank higher. Word order has no direct effect on ranking, but the first words are what a shopper sees on a phone, so lead with the phrase that says what it is. Analyzing which phrases appear in top-performing listings tells you which phrase belongs there.
